Project Overview
The goal of this project was to help the client to Age in Place by making sure everything the client would need or use, got moved to the first floor of the house. We planned to bring the laundry room upstairs, build a carport that entered from the first level, and also planned for more pantry storage for the kitchen. Originally, the bathroom in the addition was designed to be accessible for a family member. During the process, the client had an accident that required us to shift the priority to an accessible bathroom for their personal use. We planned for a large, curb-less shower with grab bars, a soaker tub, and a vanity that you could roll up under if needed. The carport features a no step entry into the house to make it accessible to anyone. Just because you make a space accessible, doesn’t mean the design elements have to take a backseat. We implemented custom cabinetry in the laundry/pantry and bathroom, a large MTI Baths soaker tub with a DoloMatte finish, and tile installed throughout the addition.
